I keep skipping ahead
hurrying one into two, two into three
breathing far too shallowly.
I keep forgetting that arriving at ten is not the goal.
After ten I will only slip back to one.
Marion Deutsche Cohen’s latest poetry book is Lights I Have Loved (Red Dashboard Press) and her latest memoir is Still the End: Memoir of a Nursing Home Wife (Unlimited Publishing), the sequel to Dirty Details: The Days and Nights of a Well Spouse (Temple University Press).
